Our first prospect we will review for the upcoming draft is “The Chosen One” Tim Tebow.
Tebow is arguably the greatest college football player in the past 20 years. Will his game translate to the NFL, as a Quarterback? That is the question that has every scouting department scratching their heads. Thom Brennaman once said if you spend 15 minutes with Tim you are a better person for it. I do not think that factors in to him hitting a 15 yard out.
Positives: Proven Winner, Leadership, A good Samaritan (Don’t expect the Bengals to draft him), Decent Arm Strength.
Negatives: Elongated passing motion, ran a gimmick offense in college, did not take many snaps from under center, accuracy issues, reading coverage.
The question is can Tim Tebow be molded into a prototypical NFL Quarterback or is a team willing to change to mold their offense around his skills? If a team chooses the later will his skills work in the NFL or will defensive speed be too quick for Tebow. A good measuring stick was when Florida played teams with pro-style defenses.
Florida vs. Tennessee and Monte Kiffin:
Tebow was 14 of 19 for 115 yards with 1 pick. His longest pass was 18 yards (Browns fans we would love to see a pass that long) and was sacked 3 times. That stat line is concerning, Tennessee played the Tampa Two and shut him down.
Florida vs. Alabama and Nick Saban
Tebow was 14 of 22 for 216 yards 3 TDs and 1 pick. His longest pass was 51 yards and was sacked 1 time. That is pretty good, especially going against the common 3-4 NFL.
So overall mixed results.
The question is can the Browns take a chance on mixed results? My answer is no way. I think Tebow could be an average QB in 2 to 3 years in the NFL. I do not want to see the Browns draft him.
